Sody (Sophie Dyson) played her first ever headline tour – the „Star Potential Tour“ - this October and on the 22nd she came to Cologne (Germany) to play a sold out show. I had the chance to go see her and have a wonderful evening with wonderful people.
In the queue I met the cutest group of friends who asked me if i wanted to be part of a project for Sophie and of course I agreed! The girls made a book with messages from fans at each show and printed out little polaroid pictures next to everyones message – such a lovely idea! From what I know, Sophie got the book at the last tour stop in Amsterdam so if you wrote her a message, she's definitely seen it!
Once inside the venue I had a look at the beautiful merch and saw some friends who were also there and by the time the support act started, the crowd was filling the whole room already.
Zander took the stage first to get the crowd ready for Sody. With his calm sound and strong vocals he mesmerized the whole audience within the first couple of minutes of his set.
An especially beautiful moment was the song „Simple, So Beautiful“ where Zander asked the crowd to join in for the chorus and the whole room sang the lyrics back to him.
Playing some unreleased tunes like „Cradle This Mess“ and „Friends“ the singer from Leeds (UK) immediately made everyone fall in love with his music so if you have a minute, go check him out – you won't regret it.
When it was time for Sody and her band (Sofie Veie on guitar and George Brown Griffiths on keys) to take the stage the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Opening the show with the song „Star Potential“ (which also inspired the tour title) had everyone immediately singing along. During the first chorus the fans held up little paper hearts that said „YOU ARE SPECIAL“ - a super sweet project that had Sophie smiling and tearing up.
Singing some of her most adored records like „Missing Me“ and „Wannabe Poet“ Sophie showed off her beautiful vocals while her band blessed the audience with amazing instrumentals.
Halfway through the set the song „Boys Come And Go“ teased a little announcement later on in the show (gonna come back to this in a little while) before the band left the stage and Sophie took over the keyboard. The audience got to decide on a song for her to play during her solo moment and the beautiful record „Imposter Syndrome“ was the choice of the evening.
With „Bitch (I Said It)“ as the last song before the little encore the crowd went wild once more. It was by far the loudest the fans have sung all evening. Everyone was dancing and singing along and it was really wonderful to see the impact Sody's music has on all these people.
After a short break the audience made space in the middle of the room for Sophie and Sofie (guitarist) to play an acoustic version of her song „Whole“. It was a really moving moment where the crowd had their flashlights up and everyone was completely silent to listen to Sophies voice (without a microphone) and only sang along for the last chorus.
Before singing „Butterfly“ as the last song of the night Sophie held a speech about her journey, her love for these shows and her music. As I said earlier, during her set she teased new songs and before leaving the stage that night she announced her debut album that will be coming out next year – so everyone get ready for that and stick aroud for an amazing journey!!
I had was such a lovely evening and if you get the chance to see Sody live, don't hesitate to get those tickets, you'll truly have an amazing time listening to the prettiest songs and meeting the loveliest people.
