The Sneaking Out Of Heaven Tour - Final Show Review

Waterparks - Los Angeles, CA - April 6, 2024

The Pop-punk Trio band Waterparks had their final US Show of the “Sneaking Out Of Heaven” tour on April 6th at The Palladium in Los Angeles, CA and Wow, what a show! Thousands of fans came out for an almost sold-out show for a giant venue, the largest venue they have performed in.

Winnetka Bowling League - Los Angeles, CA - April 6, 2024

Their openers Winnetka Bowling League and Loveless had the most magnetic setlists and great energy that really got the crowd going. Winnetka Bowling League performed songs such as “CVS” and the single “Sha-la-la” from their recent record release. They were reminiscent of bands such as The Shins and Death Cab for Cutie. They really impressed me, not only with the vocal talent of Matthew Koma, but also just their overall playfulness with the crowd.

 Loveless - Los Angeles, CA - April 6, 2024

Loveless, a pop-rock duo brought an amazing energy to the show. They have been touring with Waterparks since the first show in February and have seemed to only improve their performance on stage, becoming an energetic, memorable, and relatable presence for the crowd. Julian comaeu had recently made the statement that he had been sick and had been on vocal rest for a majority of tour, but even with that in mind, his vocals were amazing, reminiscent of 30 Seconds to Mars lead vocalist Jared Leto.

Both Winnetka Bowling League and Loveless will be going on their own tours this year, and would definitely recommend catching one or more of the shows.

Now onto our Headliner, Waterparks. The performance factor for this tour and this last show have been unmeasured compared to their previous tour. They had added new visuals, new stage props, and even at this last show, Confetti. Which I am sure all the fans were so siked for, many took home bags of the confetti as memorabilia.

But moving onto the performance aspect of the last show. They opened with “Watch What Happens Next” a popular song from their album “Fandom” followed by a hit from their album “Entertainment”… what followed was a medley showing love to the multiple amazing songs from the album “Greatest Hits” which many fans were so excited for.

Following what I would say was a seamlessly pieced-together medley was a cover of the popular early 2000s hit “Why Can’t I” by Liz Phair. This song paired very nicely with the lead vocalist's raspy yet controlled voice. Everyone was definitely soaking this moment in as all phone lights were on and everyone was swaying back and forth to the song.

After that cover, more of their popular hits followed, including “Stupid for You” and “You’d be paranoid too.”

In the middle of the set, there was an intermission with a long 3-4 minute recorded monologue, while a silhouette of Awsten Knight (Lead Vocalist) sat behind a large drape. Once the drape fell, we appear to have landed in a desolate wasteland of a set, with masked figures (on mannequins) hanging over the set.

Then we begin to hear a song we have never heard before, sounding similar to another song on their new album but with some very different lyrics, leaving a cryptic message to possibly hint to a new album release coming soon? No one is sure, but it definitely was an ear-catcher for the fans.

As we continue to the final half of the show, Awsten, the lead vocalist, leaves the stage, leaving many confused… background music begins to play, as we see the back of the house lighting up, showing Awsten within a cage of sorts, on a piano. Within a few seconds, Awsten begins to explain that he learned piano just for this tour and wanted to make it special and new. He then began to play some fan favorites, including, “High Definition” and “Snowglobe.”

Once that set was over, Awsten made his way back to the main stage where he continued to intrigue and excite the crowd with 3 more songs before we came to what we thought was the end…

After their “last” song, the entire band says “Thank you and goodnight” then leaving the stage… loyal fans though knew all too well, that they were not done yet!

All at once, the band came back out with a huge roar from the crowd, and are were able to hear not one, but THREE additional songs.

Whilst hearing these last three hits, we get to see what I would say is the biggest pit, in Waterparks history… everyone just completely having the time of their lives.

As the band exits for the last time, we hear the most grateful and amazing crowd cheering Waterparks on for multiple minutes even after they are off stage, truly making it a memorable last show of the tour.

This tour leaves us with many questions though.

What’s next? Will there be a new album? If so, when?

As made clear by the amount of loyal fans that this band has, they will all be eagerly awaiting the answers to those questions, and will for sure “watch what happens next”.
