Founded in 1961 in Orillia, Ontario, the Mariposa Folk Festival is a leading folk music event in Canada. Established by Ruth Jones and her husband, Dr. Casey Jones, the first festival exclusively featured Canadian artists and was aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Over time, the festival has moved from Orillia to various locations in Ontario due to local issues, eventually returning to Orillia in 2000. Throughout its history, Mariposa has highlighted a wide range of artists, including icons like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, and Neil Young.
The 2025 Mariposa Folk Festival is set for July 4–6 at Tudhope Park in Orillia. The event will showcase well-known artists such as Iron & Wine, Waxahatchee, The Sheepdogs, Serena Ryder, and The Paper Kites, among others. Attendees can look forward to a diverse mix of musical acts on multiple stages, along with interactive workshops and cultural activities.
